Dr. Vera Weizmann Research Awards – On the subject of Women and Medicine
Yad Chaim Weizmann, with the support of the Weizmann-Mandel Foundation, is pleased to announce the award of research prizes honoring the memory and work of Dr. Vera Weizmann, a doctor, public figure and wife of the first President of the State. Having completed her medical studies at the University of Geneva in 1906, Dr. Vera Weizmann practiced pediatrics in England. Dr. Weizmann was among the founders of the English Zionist Federation and of the WIZO organization for the welfare of women and children in the Land of Israel. She was also active in supporting children affected by polio and in establishing institutions for rehabilitation of soldiers in Israel.
In awarding the prizes, Yad Weizmann seeks to support female researchers at the outset of their academic careers, encourage academic excellence, promote research in Israel on women and medicine in various fields, and disseminate this research in academia and among the general public. Prizes will be awarded for scientific studies based on academic excellence, originality and the significance of their contribution to research.
- NIS 25,000 will be awarded for an outstanding doctoral dissertation
- NIS 10,000 will be awarded for an outstanding MA thesis
Research proposals will be accepted in all fields within the Humanities and Social Sciences, including history, literature, art, cultural studies, gender studies, sociology, anthropology and more. The prizes are designed in support of research focused on one of the following areas:
- Women in the medical profession
- Women in support and assistance roles in the health field
- Women's health from historical, cultural and social aspects
* Preference will be shown to studies dealing with local perspectives from a historical or contemporary viewpoint.

Award for Outstanding Doctoral Thesis
Conditions of eligibility:
- Applicants holding a doctoral degree may apply relative to a dissertation approved in the three years preceding the nomination deadline, and produced in an accredited research institution in Israel.
- Researchers holding an employment slot at an academic institution in Israel or abroad are not eligible to apply for the prize.
- The dissertation has not yet been published as a book.
To apply, fill out an online application form and attach the following documents:
- Curriculum vitae, including list of publications
- Research summary (up to two pages)
- Electronic copy of the research paper
- Letters of Adjudication of the submitted research
- Supervisor’s Letter of Reference, which must be sent direct to Yad Chaim Weizmann
- Document of Approval of the dissertation by the academic institution in which the study was conducted
Award for outstanding M.A. thesis
Conditions of eligibility:
- Applicants holding their MA may submit their candidacy for work approved in the three years preceding the final nomination submission date for the prize, and written at a recognized research institution in Israel or abroad.
- Applicants registered for doctoral studies in a recognized research institution in Israel may apply.
